"WE HAVE ROLLED OUT THE RED CARPET"

Carpet has been around for a long time, progressing from its purely functional origins as a warmth provider to the many options of today. The vast array of carpets available offer a defining foundation for our interior schemes in our homes and in our workplaces.

Pentagon Carpets

Whether it is refreshing the look of your home interiors or just the need to transform a room, carpets are a versatile and stylish material that will liven up any area. The properties of carpet fibres vary in quality and each type suits different uses and applications around the home.

At Pentagon, the choice is endless. We have sourced, from our many well known suppliers, something to suit all tastes and budgets.

      Laura Ashley

The most popular type of carpet is the cut pile. It is created from yarn which has been tightly twisted together. It mainly comes in plain colours and has a mottled textured appearance. This is a great option for those seeking a general purpose and economical style around the home.

Velvet pile carpet describes exactly how it feels. The Velvet pile has a very smooth, silky feel with an elegant cut pile finish. This is ideal for bedrooms in need of that luxurious and cosy feel.

Shag pile is made in the same way as cut pile, but has much longer tufts for a fantastically luxurious feel. The shaggy appearance was extremely popular back in the seventies and this look is increasingly making a comeback at present.

Loop pile carpet is excellent for durable all purpose use. It is sometimes referred to as a Berber carpet. This type of carpet features a looped pile making it more hard wearing than other carpet types.

And finally, saxony is similar to shag pile in as much as it also features longer tufts than some of the other styles. It can best be described as a dense cut pile and people often favour it for use in bedrooms and living rooms.

VINYL

Vinyl flooring is a flexible flooring available in a range of looks and textures. Although primarily used in commercial settings, vinyl flooring is a great alternative to laminate for domestic use in areas such as kitchens or bathrooms.

                                 Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring is extremely versatile, largely due to its hardwearing nature and the ease of which it can be cleaned. No special chemicals or products are needed, just a mop and bucket or a brush will do. If you choose to use vinyl flooring in your home, it is good to note that the durability is directly related to the thickness. It’s ease of maintenance and water-resistant nature makes it an ideal choice for kitchens, bathrooms and wet areas.

UNDERLAY

Remember that just as carpet may wear more in certain areas, so does the underlay. You wouldn’t buy a new car with old tyres! Remember to always buy new underlay with a new carpet!

                       Carpet Underlay

The benefits are...
- Underlay is vital for a new carpet to sit properly and wear evenly.
- It improves the feel of the carpet underfoot and helps with that 'luxury' feel.
- It increases heat and sound insulation and can reduce energy costs.
- It reduces pile compression and so enables a carpet to retain its appearance for longer.
- New underlay can increase the life of your carpet by up to 40%.

UNDERFLOOR HEATING

Underfloor heating systems are growing in popularity and we are often asked about their compatibility with carpet. The Carpet Foundation carried out some research in conjunction with the Underfloor Heating Manufacturers Association (UHMA) and this proved conclusively that most carpet can be used over underfloor heating systems without impairing the performance of the system.

        Warmup Foil Heating

The research showed that a carpet and underlay with a combined thermal resistance of less than 2.5 togs allows the underfloor heating system to operate efficiently. Indeed, the real thermal resistance values of carpet and underlay were on average 1 tog lower than was previously believed.
